An interesting quandary - absentee ballots

What is a performance audit?

In the past, ballots were:

  • Hand cast and punched.
  • Overseen by up to 15+ volunteers at the polling place.
  • Carefully placed in locked, sealed boxes.
  • Guarded at every moment.
  • From the polling place to the highly secure counting location carried by police escort.

Currently, there is a new and technically advanced system including software and electronics.

  • Hand cast and punched. Cast by dark ink (so it can be electronically "read")
  • Overseen by up to 15+ volunteers at the polling place. No security
  • Carefully placed in un-locked, un-sealed boxes.
  • Guarded at every moment. not guarded - NO electronic surveillance.
  • From the polling place to the highly secure counting location carried by police escort. carried by two government employees.

The right to vote and the treatment of ballots have been historically treated as if our very way of life depended on it. (The US Constitution insures this).

Our way of life did depend on it and it still does.

Ballot box stuffing is not a new idea.

King County has had more than its fair share of questionable credibility events.

In March of 2009, Stefan Sharkansky (Sound Politics) settled the largest transparency case in this state’s history with King County for $225,000.

Sharkansky noticed there were hundreds more votes counted that there were registered voters in the state. This could have decided the governortiorial race of 2004 with a completely different outcome.

When Sharkansky did a public document request in King County for ballots, King County withheld this evidence until after the recount court had gone to trial.

Ultimately Sharkansky was able to establish these violations of our democracy but the trial was over and Gregiore was in office.

In KIRO TV’s news piece, King County Elections Director Sherril Huff, states voters might be “misled by the official sounding nature” of the clearly identified UnInformed Consent news release when, as the arbiter of the most vital components of a successful democracy, (the part where the citizen actually plays an active role) one might want to think it would be welcomed - a confirmation of a well-toned system.

It is troubling Huff has instead taken a position that would seem to imply that citizens do not have the right to take it upon themselves to confirm their own ballots results.

A performance audit is just that. It is audit of the performance of the fidelity of our ballot collecting system.

By extracting data from the point of origin, it mathematically eliminates variables. Thus the result is a clear representation of hard fact.

The results will tell the tale.

When does it stop... or does it?

KIRO TV's Essex Porter wasn't the only one interested in this topic.

KOMO TV's Bryon Johnson covered vandalism of the ballot box in Tukwila.
Johnson leads with "This could be the stuff of controversy - 5700 ballots where voter signatures don't match signatures on file."

KING TV's Allen Schauffer references the 860 ballots found in the Nov. 3rd vandalized ballot drop box, "We have an election for Mayor in Seattle that has a separation of 515 votes right now."

Whaaat!?

This little anomaly could decide numerous races county wide!

What ARE they thinking?

Johnson then ends with:

“King County is making you a promise. This will NEVER happen again.

Whaaat!?

ELECTION - NEWS

Which came first, the chicken or the fray?

For months, the controversy over the installation of the soccer fields has fueled.

Deja vu?

Credibility is the issue.

Councilpersons Jeff Glickman, Hank Stecker, and Chuck Price seem to have a game plan to discredit anyone who does not align with their talking points.

In particular, this has been status quo for these three council persons who, when publicly confronted with their questionable behaviors, avoid responsibility at any cost - usually with a habitual change of topic.

Case in point, the HUSO Case (while confronted with recorded documents that the city was in error), these three instead spent over 40 minutes Sept. 9, 2008 discussing how they are being being abused by the citizens they represent, rather than addressing the questions before them.

(Note - The judge ruled on the Huso case in October, that the city had "no merit" in their defense , IE the city lost. After some serious "lawyering" by the city, the case is now at the COA).

Of late, it is election season
Tthe antics have clearly escalated, and there is outside help.

Citizen extraordinaire, Richard Block, who seems to be an instrumental front man for Stecker, Glickman and Price, has created nothing less than a full blown production squandering city resources at an alarming rate during an economic downturn. The Oct. 6th meeting went on almost 6 hours until 1 AM. At approximately $2,300 per hour to run a city council meeting, it adds up.

What is the point?

It seems to be focused on invalidating anyone who gets in their way. That would include any of the other sitting councilpersons.

If successful, this would tend to pave the way for their candidate favorites, Bernie Talmas,
Paulette Bauman, Susan Boundy-Sanders, and incumbent, Chuck Price, who have now advertised they are running as a slate. .

1. Jeff August 4th, the Main Show Part 1
This piece begins with Woodinville Councilman Hank Stecker's "Opener", a wandering narrative that rarely stays on topic.
Stecker's condensed at 4:44 min - The real event time was 14:36 min.
The piece continues with the begining of Jeff Glickman's Main Show, reading out loud what he implied were "legal cites" he HAD to put in the record under threats of imminent litigation. It was over an hour long monologue of what, to those present interested in getting work done, was an extraordinarily painful event.
Glickman condensed 5:10 min in part 1 then continued in Part 2,

2. Jeff August 4th, the Main Show Part 2
Continues the condensed version of the events of August 4th, 2009 starting where Part 1 left off.
Remaining Glickman condensed at 9:58 min in part 2
The real event time was 1 hour 4 min 20 seconds.
Glickman's total condensed time=15:08 min.

3. Dr David Brown
Glickman reached a particular crescendo on Sept. 8th when he directed the city manager to contact a "Dr David Brown at the Centers of Disease Control." or "We are gonna kill people."
Except among the four Dr. David Browns at the CDC, Glickman's Dr. David Brown had long since escaped his Centers for Disease Control and Prevention post 10 years earlier (The CDC changed their name in 1970).
When it was requested that Glickman explain who Dr. David Brown was at the next meeting, Glickman completely stonewalled 10 times in under 3 minutes. (See video)

4. WCC Jun 9th - The Gavel - Out of order
This was a pivital moment in Stecker's and Glickman's habitual over- the- top behaviors. Where it would be easy to stand back and blame the chair, the question remains, what would anyone else do if faced with adults who choose to employ socially inappropriate behaviors?

Fueling the Fire

The above people represent the entrails of the neighborhood group, CNW - Concerned Neighbors of Wellington, who left after Mr. Glickman's coup d'etat in 2007, sending well - meaning community members looking for cover.

Many original members resigned when Glickman took over the group - preceding by mere weeks - his $30,000 launch to run for the 2007 City Council complete with TV ads.

In addition to the above named, remaining citizen minions appear to be Al Taylor, whose public comment "YouTube" video, was exposed as "doctored" by the turf manufacturer Oct. 6th, and Steve Yabroff, both also former candidates for office.

All of the above have fiercely endorsed and supported Glickman, Stecker and Price, looking the other way during their inappropriate behaviors as public officials.

Glickman's credibility, as well as Stecker's and Price's have come into question on many occasions but during this race, it is outright painful.

The fields.

In the current controversy it is apparent there has been some significant investment into an attorney, setting up a "parent organization coalition", and long, grueling, sometimes loud meetings in an Herculean effort to be believable.

When it became publicly clear that the funding was 70% covered by grants (and most recently Boeing and Mariner's Care), they all but deserted the funding talking point and turned their attention to what they term as "toxic" exposure to our children.

The accusations of any innocent bystander who might question their point falls slightly short of accusing every parent in the room a baby killer.

But the question remains. Why go to such great lengths, and risk cedibility if the debate has enough merit to stand on its own?

What is the issue?

Though the shotgun case serves to cloud the issue, it is quite simple.

There is fill between the sythetic blades of grass. It adds "bounce".

There are numerous fills to choose from, but the Stecker-Glickman-Price-Block gang is pointing at a fill called "crumb rubber".

There are many types of fill. Instead of simply changing the fill, their talking points are absolute. Let's fight. Let's eat up air and it is natural turf or nothing.

Instead of working together to choose environmentally safe fills, the circus came to town.

What one does hear is the clear battle cry that anyone that won't settle for natural turf must not care about our children as if no one in the room is a parent.
