Ron Sim's Brightwater -
                     the ever moving target.....

Balakot - Aerial photo immediately after the Oct. ’05 Pakistan earthquake. The active fault runs along the base of the ridge from the lower left to upper right.  Nearly all houses on the right side were destroyed with great loss of life due to collapse of the roofs on the inhabitants.

The fault slopes to the right beneath these houses.  The left side in contrast has much less damage.  This fault damage is similar to what could happen on the fault(s) at the HWY 9 Brightwater site.   It is critical to locate the actual surface trace of the fault through trenching.  Otherwise severe damage can take place at some distance from the fault as shown here even though many of the houses were fairly well built.  Photo by Lt. Col. Wiley Thompson.
